Xoft now offers a vehicle to transport up to three Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy Systems from one location to another. This allows treatment for patients that would normally opt out of radiation due to the commute time to and from the hospital.
Axxent® Controller
The Axxent eBx™ System utilizes a miniaturized high dose rate (HDR) X-ray source to apply radiation directly to the cancerous tumor bed. Unlike traditional high dose rate brachytherapy technologies, this ground-breaking form of brachytherapy does not require radioactive isotopes, heavy shielding or major capital equipment.
The FlexiShield® along with the steeper dose fall-off of the Axxent HDR X-ray Source in comparison to HDR radioactive isotopes results in a dramatic reduction of shielding requirements. This allows hospital staff to remain in the room with the patient during treatment, and permits patient treatment in rooms and facilities that currently cannot be used for HDR brachytherapy.
- The Axxent System mimics 192Ir in the treatment area, but greatly reduces the amount of radiation delivered to the rest of the body, providing greater sparing of healthy organs
- Axxent FlexiShield attenuates radiation exposure to the patient's healthy tissue and allows treatment personnel to remain in the treatment room.
- Delivers the therapeutic dose directly to the tumor bed.
As a complete system of care, the Axxent eBx System allows for easy incorporation of future applications. Source voltage and current can be modulated, permitting Intensity Modulated Brachytherapy (Xoft IMBTâ„¢) in future applications.
