Xoft® Axxent® Balloon Applicators

Literature Library

The Axxent® balloon applicator is a key component of the Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx®) System®, for delivery of intracavitary and intraoperative radiation (IORT). Balloon Applicators, available in multiple sizes and shapes, can be filled with different volumes of saline to best fit the contour of the surgical cavity and allow delivery of a more conformal radiation dose. Inserted through a single incision, the balloon catheter provides a channel for the Xoft X-ray Source to deliver high-dose rate, low energy radiation treatment. The Xoft eBx System with balloon applicators offers an attractive option for physicians and patients desiring greater flexibility and patient comfort in breast cancer treatment.

  • Part of a complete Xoft (eBx) System – an integrated solution for breast IORT, APBI
    and other intracavitary radiation treatments
  • Available in multiple sizes to best fit the contour of the lumpectomy cavity providing
    optimized treatment delivery
  • Separate ports for drainage, saline fill and Xoft X-Ray Source insertion
  • Designed with drainage lumens which allow for improved tissue conformity
  • Radiolucent balloon wall for improved visibility on planar film and in CT images

All Xoft treatments must be performed with a thorough knowledge of radiation physics, proper planning, dosimetric calculations and knowledge of radio-biological effectiveness; therefore, we require that a radiation therapist/oncologist administer the use of the Xoft Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx) System. We do not support the use of the Xoft System by anyone other than radiation professionals (trained and certified). We rigorously enforce this, as patient safety and efficacy is preeminent to us.
