Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT)
Breast cancer treatment in as little as 1 day
IORT is a type of radiation therapy in which radiation is delivered at the time of surgery. During IORT, the entire dose of radiation may be delivered during a single, intraoperative fraction. A typical IORT treatment can be delivered in as little as 8 minutes, compared to the seven-week course of external beam therapy.
All Xoft treatments must be performed with a thorough knowledge of radiation physics, proper planning, dosimetric calculations and knowledge of radio-biological effectiveness; therefore, we require that a radiation therapist/oncologist administer the use ofthe Xoft® Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx®) System®. We do not support the use of the Xoft System by anyone other than radiation professionals (trained and certified). We rigorously enforce this, as patient safety and efficacy is pre-eminent to us.
